CHANGING WORLD

You know, it looks like everybody is getting out of this neighborhood.  Why do I feel like I’m one of the only people left here?  Everywhere I look, I see windows boarded up or in the process of boarding up.  I see For Rent or For Sale signs on all the streets—residential, business.  There are homeless folks everywhere I look.   All the old apartment buildings are being changed into condominiums.  How can anybody afford to live in them?  My neighbor, Pat, said she was going to sell her cat.  She’s had that cat for so many years, always in the same apartment building.  I never saw her without that beautiful white cat.  Now she says she wants to sell it!  Times must really be shaky if she has to do something like that.  The bartender over on Simpson mentioned that he is thinking of closing up and retiring.  That’s pretty hard to believe.  His uncle sold the tavern to him back in 1961 and he’s run it ever since!  What is this town coming to?  By the way, is it time for me to call my bankruptcy attorney yet?  If I’m not mistaken, I think she said she wanted to make our second appointment for next Thursday.   She’s really sweet, but I don’t think she’s always that well organized.
